Personality Type versus Behavior

We know a lot of people and in some aspects they all are unique and interesting. Everyone have something unique, it might be a feature of character or a part of appearance. But the main thing which separates us from others is a personality type.

To begin with, a personality type approach says you are either an introvert or an extravert. If a person is calm, continent, leisurely or serious and thorough, he is an introvert. If a person is open, eloquent, relaxed and confident he is an extravert. But the main difference between these types is that extraverts are energized by being around other people, while introverts need time alone to recharge their batteries and can be drained by too much time spent among many others.

Carl Jung gives another theory of personality. He talks about four functional types which he describes as most differentiated functions which play the principal role in individual’s adaptation or orientation to life. Thirst function is feeling - the method by which a person understands the value of conscious activity. The second is thinking which allows a person to understand the meanings of things. Another two is sensation and intuition. Sensation refers to the means by which a person knows something exists and intuition is knowing about something without conscious understanding of where that knowledge comes from.

One more way to describe a person’s personality is to assess a type of behavior. There are two behavior patterns. The type A behavior pattern is a cluster of behaviors involving hostility, competitiveness, time urgency and feeling driven. People who have type A behavior pattern have driven lives. They put in longer hours at work, are impatient with other people and could do several activities at one time. On the other side, type A behavior pattern is characterized by a patient, cooperative, noncompetitive and nonaggressive manner. These people are always laid back and easy going. What is more, psychologist Johan Denollet has found one more type D. Type D includes people who have insecurity and anxiety feelings, and the negative outlook.

There are a lot of theories of personality and behavior, but the main idea is that all theories exposed everyone’s unique abilities and characteristics. The appearance is not the only way you show yourself to the society, behavior also creates your personality. Like one psychologist said: “If we were equal, our shades would be the same”.
